Fowler Petrol Engine Resources Engine Features and Fittings - The Wico A Type Magneto This page details the specification for the popular HT magneto as fitted to the Fowler (and many other) stationary engines. The Wico A type is a fully enclosed, stationary coil type magneto which saw great success in many stationary engine applications including most notably, Wolseley WD series and the Petter A series. Batches of Fowler engines were equipped with Wico A series magnetos during the later years of production, probably due to stocks of the older Lucas N1 magneto becoming unavailable and not competitive against the mass produced Wico A. Fowler engines equipped with the Wico A series magneto appear to be rarer with not many being seen on the rallyfield. This is probably a result of the Wico magneto being used prior to the Fowler PA series engine production ceasing. Apart from regular lubrication of the bearings and checking/adjusting the points the Wico A series engine was very reliable and will often be found operating with a very good spark in the present day.
