Petter Handyman Oil Engine No. 23345
Trolley Construction
|
The trolley will be a steerable unit based around a set of recently
acquired cast iron wheels. The wheels were badly worn and required
truing on a lathe otherwise the completed trolley would wobble when
the engine was running. As the lathe chuck was too small for the
wheels we had to use a faceplate and a specially fabricated jig
to hold the wheels whilst being trued. Each wheel required 3 - 4mm
of material to be bored until the centre holes became true in line
with the outer rim which was the datum.
The wheels run on mild steel axle stubs machined individually to
suit each wheel. The axle stubs are then welded to heavy gauge angle
iron section to form the main axles which are then bolted to the
wooden runners with M12 coach bolts which shall form the complete
trolley axles.
The trolley is generally constructed from wood apart from the steel
axles and the steel disc turntable which we had plasma cut to the
exact size. The trolley wood was rough cut
A turntable will be provided to allow the engine to
be moved with ease, a separate water tank and frame will be provided
for cooling. This will keep storage space to a minimum and will
allow for a more compact trolley design. An exhaust silencer has
been obtained however this may be slightly small for the Handyman
but it is a start until either a proper cast iron pot is found or
an exhaust is fabricated from steel.
