HORIZONTAL

The 3 HP petrol/paraffin engine was introduced around 1922 to satisfy the export market for a well engineered, economical and reliable engine. Few horizontal engines are in preservation in the UK, the majority are found in New Zealand and Australia which reinforces the export theory. Indeed, many of the earlier Wolseley engines (Styles 1-4) are found in these countries since there was a large export market at that time.
The horizontal engine (also known as the 'Alma') was fitted with the familiar Fellows high tension magneto and a throttle type governor was employed. Little further information is known about these engines, in fact Wolseley Webb Ltd have no recollection of the manufacture of such and engine!
