WD2

Following the success of the WD1 the WD2 was introduced around March 1945. The only major difference between the WD2 and WD1 was the intoduction of the finned hopper (which would aid cooling), a cast iron crankshaft was now used rather than a steel and changes were made to the magneto and camshaft gear mountings within the crankshaft. Modifications were also carried out on the main crankcase casting which now had a slightly different shape compared to the WD1. The new casing shape marked the introduction of the circular inspection door with Wolseley's logo cast into it. The smooth hopper was still available as an option on the WD2 however it appears most engines left the factory with the new finned hopper. The WD2 remained in production until 1949 with around 17,000 engines being produced.
